There's something almost magical about the opening scenes of this short feature as the eponymous ornithologist opens the palm of his hand to reveal an egg, then a tiny newborn chick then we are introduced to a brief glimpse into the world that fascinates him. Nesting birds and birds in full flight, those tiny and those quite capable of having his arm off all paint a few short quotes from a relaxed Heinzel who in turn sketches images of these remarkably friendly creatures that consist of detailed images and colours. It's has the feel of a trailer for a longer form documentary from Jacques Mitsch as there is clearly much more in the can then we see here for five minutes.
